The Danish government has ordered the local army to assist police in securing various sites associated with the country's Jewish and Israeli communities, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the army will join its police force in guarding the Israeli embassy and the main synagogues in the capital Copenhagen. According to the local defense ministry, the large demonstrations in the capital over the war in the Gaza Strip have stretched the capabilities of the local police to a minute. In addition, the country fears anti-Islamic displays such as the burning of Korans, which will inflame the spirits of the country's Muslim minority.
"The terrorist threat in Denmark is a serious one. The conflict in the Middle East has led to an intolerable rise in anti-Semitism and a sense of insecurity among Danish Jewry," Danish Defense Minister Trolls Lund Poulsen said in a statement.
