Since the beginning of the Iron Sword War, the IDF has located more than 800 tunnel shafts belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization, destroying about 500 of them. Almost two months into the war, and since the beginning of the ground maneuvers in Gaza, the military forces operating in the heart of Gaza have exposed the underground terror city that Hamas has built in recent years.
Watch the documentation: 800 tunnel shafts exposed since the beginning of the war
The shafts that were exposed were destroyed by a variety of operational methods, including detonation and blocking. Some of the shafts identified connected strategic Hamas assets through the underground medium. In addition, many kilometers of tunneling route were destroyed.

The shafts found testify more than anything else to Hamas' use of Gaza's civilian population as human shields and cover for its terrorist activities. In some of the shafts, IDF forces found large quantities of weapons left inside. Some were discovered in civilian spaces, and many were located near or inside buildings such as educational institutions, kindergartens, mosques and playgrounds. In some of them, IDF forces found large quantities of weapons left inside.

The IDF notes that after locating the shafts, the forces carry out in-depth research activities to understand the characteristics of the tunnels and then prepare the underground route for its destruction.
