Staff Sgt. Assi (Aschala) Sama, 20, from Petah Tikva, is laid to rest in the military section of the Segula cemetery in Petah Tikva. Sama, a soldier in the Nahal's 932nd Battalion, was wounded in battle on November 14 in the northern Gaza Strip.

He was hospitalized and since then has been anesthetized and on a ventilator, undergoing a series of surgeries. His condition was described as serious and stable, but on Thursday his condition deteriorated, and on Saturday he was pronounced dead.

Assi studied at the Musinson Youth Village in Hod Hasharon, where he was said to have been "an exemplary student, loved by the entire staff and touched all of our hearts. We will accompany, embrace and strengthen his family and loved ones."
