After being postponed due to the war, Interior Minister Moshe Arbel officially announced on Monday that local elections would be held on January 30. The 14 municipalities whose residents were evacuated as a result of the war were excluded from this provision.

The original date of the elections was October 30, which were postponed by the Knesset following the events of the October <> and the war. The explanatory notes to the postponement proposal state that "there will be practical and technical difficulties in holding the elections, and that the local authorities are required to focus their activities and direct all their resources to dealing with the state of war and the many challenges that lie before them."

Those who will be excluded from the Interior Minister's decision are 14 municipalities whose residents were evacuated as a result of the war: Kiryat Shmona, Sderot, Eshkol, Upper Galilee, Ashkelon Beach, Mevoot Hermon, Mateh Asher, Ma'ale Yosef, Merom Galil, Sdot Negev, Sha'ar Hanegev, Metula, Ghajar, Shlomi. In his letter, the interior minister said that elections in these municipalities would be held no earlier than 150 days after residents could return to their homes.
