Against the backdrop of the UN's weak response: The event held today (Monday) at the UN headquarters in New York was attended by hundreds of people, including ambassadors from around the world, senior UN officials, Jewish leaders, and women's organizations from Israel. Testimonies and findings proving the extent and severity of the crimes of sexual violence committed by Hamas terrorists during the October 7 terrorist attacks were revealed.
Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delivered a recorded speech in which she said, "I call on everyone to make a clear statement – we are on the side of women. Always and everywhere. From Ukraine to the Middle East, and uncompromisingly condemn Hamas' atrocities."
Ambassador Erdan attacked the UN and its women's organization: "The international bodies that are supposed to protect all women in the world, who have sworn to protect them, have proven that when it comes to Israeli women, they remain indifferent. In the eyes of these organizations, Israeli women are not women, and rape of Israeli women is not rape." ERDAN CALLED FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO UN WOMEN BECAUSE OF ITS "INDIFFERENCE TO ISRAELI WOMEN."
The harsh testimonies were presented by Lahav 443 representative Yael Reichert, Sari Mendez of the Military Rabbinate, and a ZAKA representative.
Women's delegation to New York
As part of the effort to rally the international community to Israel's side and expose Hamas' crimes, a delegation of Israeli women traveled to the United States to meet with prominent figures in the Jewish Federation and the American administration. In this context, the delegation participated in an event at UN headquarters.
Dr. Kochav Elkayam Levy, of the Davis Institute for International Relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a member of the delegation, spoke during a demonstration held outside UN headquarters: "Since October 7, I have found myself in a situation I never asked of myself – to be a voice for those who remain voiceless, silenced by unimaginable acts of violence.
"Israeli women are all subject to collective international denial, the same denial inflicted on individual victims of sexual violence casts doubt on and delegitimizes their experiences. It's more than just apathy. It actively contributes to the growing tide of anti-Semitism that is sweeping the world
This deafening silence raises troubling questions: Are Israeli women protected under international law? Are Israeli women even human? I will not stand idly by to see the destruction of everything We as women, as human beings, as human rights activists, fought so hard. We won't let them take that away from us, women's rights exist beyond the law – no one can grant them or take them away from us."
The demonstration was attended by hundreds of women activists in the "Building an Alternative" movement in front of the UN headquarters in New York, and in addition the movement launched a campaign to raise awareness of Hamas' crimes by advertising in Times Square and the New York Times.
