A new Bedouin community: The Regional Planning and Building Council today (Tuesday) entrusted the master plan of a new community in the Negev to the Bedouin population – Rakhmeh, which was decided to be established in 2022.

The new community will be located in the Yeruham Valley, north of the Yeruham Local Council, and will include a Bedouin diaspora scattered over an area of 15,<> dunams.

Advancing the master plan is expected to increase the percentage of consent of residents of the diaspora who agree to move to settle there. Participating in today's discussion were Chairman of the Committee of Rakhmeh Residents – Honorable Sheikh Odeh Zanun, Yeruham Local Council Head Tal Ohana, representatives of the Southern District Planning Bureau, representatives of the Negev Bedouin Development and Settlement Authority. During the discussion, it was discussed that the location of the settlement would be such that it would not harm existing projects, various landscapes or open or protected areas, and would be able to integrate into the space and accessibility to required infrastructure.

Director General of the Planning Authority, Rafi Amalih, added that "the success of the move was promoted thanks to excellent cooperation between representatives of the Planning Administration and the local population, and with the support of the authorities in the area, while providing a response to all the unique needs of the Bedouin population."
