About a month after sparking outrage with a strongly anti-Israel post condemned by her father, actor John White, Angelina Jolie found the time to sit down for an interview for The Wall Street Journal as part of a campaign to promote her new film Maria, in which she plays the late opera singer Maria Callas. In it, she openly revealed for the first time that she experienced paralysis six months before filing for divorce from Brad Pitt.

In an interview published Tuesday, Jolie, 48, said she hesitated before agreeing to step into the famous opera singer's shoes when she noticed familiar signs of tension taking over her body. "My body reacts very badly to stress," she revealed. "My blood sugar goes up and down and I suffered Bell's palsy for six months before breaking up with [Brad]," the Oscar-winning actress added about the nerve disorder manifested by weakness or paralysis of the facial muscles.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016, reportedly triggered by a violent incident on the couple's private jet involving some of their children. Since then, the two have been engaged in an ugly and well-publicized divorce battle, and even today, seven years after the separation, they have not yet signed a final divorce agreement.

"For the past seven years, I've mostly been at home. We had to get better," Julie said of the life she's been leading since the divorce drama began. Indeed, her list of film credits includes only five films, with the last time she walked the red carpet was in 2021 to promote Marvel's Eternals. "I realized that my closest friends are refugees," said a humanitarian activist who visits disaster-stricken countries and meets with refugees. "Four of the six women I'm closest to are from areas of war and conflict."

As for the future, Jolie shares that she intends to eventually leave Los Angeles. "That's part of what happened after my divorce request. I lost the ability to live and travel freely. I'll leave when I can," she said, sharing that the plan is to spend more time in the home she has in Cambodia from which she adopted her eldest son Maddox. "Hollywood is not a healthy place, so I'm looking for authenticity."

In her remarks against Israel in an iron sword war, she said, among other things: "This is a deliberate bombing of a trapped population that has nowhere to run. Gaza has been an open-air prison for two decades and is rapidly turning into a mass grave. 40 percent of those who die are innocent children," Jolie wrote, without mentioning the children abducted by Hamas. "Their families are being murdered at a time when the world is seeing, and with the active support of many governments, millions of Palestinian civilians – children, women, families – being collectively and inhumanely punished, while being deprived of food, medicine and humanitarian aid in violation of international law" – without saying a word about the fact that they were asked by the Israeli government to evacuate to northern Gaza and chose not to do so.

After her inflammatory post, Jolie's father, Oscar- and Golden Globe winning actor and well-known supporter of Israel, John White, joined the wave of people who came out against his daughter and stated emphatically: "I am very disappointed in her. She has no understanding of God's glory, God's truth. This is about destroying the history of the Land of God, the Holy Land, the Land of the Jews."
