In the midst of the war – Minister of National Security vs. Minister of Defense: Itamar Ben-Gvir attacked Yoav Galant today (Wednesday) over another administrative detention order issued against a settler in Judea and Samaria. He is a resident of Binyamin, a farmer and farm owner, married with children.
"The third administrative detention order issued to the settler since the outbreak of the war. Someone got confused and forgot who the enemy was and who was the lover," Ben-Gvir tweeted on the X account.
Attorney David Halevi, who represents the settler on behalf of Honenu, attacked the order, saying: "It is very regrettable that Defense Minister Galant chose to hold my client in administrative detention for extraneous and arbitrary considerations and apparently due to pressure exerted on the State of Israel. Only yesterday we heard in the media about a decision by the US government to ban the entry of settlers, and today this decision is made by the Minister of Defense.
"I note that this unfortunate decision came after the court clearly implied that the evidence against my client was problematic. I should also note that yesterday it was decided to carry out an identification lineup and my client asked to consult with a lawyer regarding his rights. Instead of exhausting the investigation process, and perhaps out of concern that the investigation would not yield desired results, the minister rushed to issue the said order, severely violating my client's right to liberty. We will use all legal means at our disposal to attack this order, which is unjustified in every respect."
The background is the sanctions imposed by the United States on Jews who acted violently against Palestinians.
Galant addressed the issue yesterday at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister Benny Gantz.
"I sign decrees – quite a few of the extremists come from outside Judea and Samaria," Ben-Gvir said.
