Palestinians wait their turn at a gas station after the trucks enter, 48 days after the Maariv crossings are closed
Israel's Political Security Cabinet on Wednesday approved the War Cabinet's recommendation to allow a minimal increase in fuel to the Gaza Strip, which is needed to prevent a humanitarian collapse and outbreak of epidemics in the southern Gaza Strip. The definition of the "minimum scope" will be determined from time to time by the War Cabinet, in accordance with the morbidity and humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Ministers Ben-Gvir and Smotrich voted against the resolution.

Why it's important:
- The increase in the amount of fuel entering the Gaza Strip was a response to heavy American pressure exerted on Israel since the collapse of the ceasefire.
- Senior Israeli officials said that complying with the American demand was necessary to receive support for the IDF's continued operation in Khan Yunis.

Between the lines:
The fact that the cabinet's decision does not determine a clear amount of fuel that will enter the Gaza Strip allows the War Cabinet to make all decisions on the issue later on, without the need to re-obtain approval from the political-security cabinet.
