The joy of returning to Mia's home there in the city of Shoham turned to pain on Thursday with the news of the death of a resident of the city, First Sergeant Amit Bunzel. Amit fell in battle in the Gaza Strip. His brother Nadav received the news when he also fought in Gaza.

Father Itzik said painfully: "When the fighting started again after the ceasefire, I knew something was going to happen, I just didn't know which one." He referred to the fact that his second son, Nadav, 25, is also a fighter in Gaza in the 101st Paratroopers Battalion. "The last two months have been hell for me and my wife Noa. We didn't sleep at night."

The father recounted what a colleague told him before he entered Gaza. "He told me, 'Dad, don't be angry, I'm signing an Eddie card. If something happens to me, donate my organs,' and that's what we did last night. Amit wanted to die as a hero, he loved the country and therefore decided to give his whole life to the country."

Family friend Sharona says: "Amit, a sweet boy who became the man of men. Fighter and commander in a paratrooper reconnaissance. He fought against a despicable squad of evil forces and fell in battle. Noa, his mother, did not fall asleep at night out of concern for her two sons, fighters who fought in Gaza. Yesterday, while they were informed that Amit had fallen, a delegation went to rescue Nadav, their eldest son, who fought in the heart of Gaza, in order to inform him of his little brother's death." Uncle Netanel: "My heart was torn. It is incomprehensible that this smile is no longer with us."

Amit was a graduate of Yeshivat Amit Kfar Ganim. He is survived by his parents, Yitzhak and Noa, and two brothers, Nadav and Adi. His funeral will be held today at 14 p.m. on Mount Herzl.
