The party chairwoman announced the party's primaries in April and announced that she would not run for the primaries and the party list

Merav Michaeli announced that she will not run in the primaries and will not run for the next Knesset, she said at a press conference on Thursday, while also announcing the date of the party's next primaries, probably this April.

In a lengthy letter posted on her Twitter account, Michaeli wrote, among other things: "I believe in the Labor Party, which is why I fought for it so much. The Labor Party is the only party whose platform is truly the Declaration of Independence. The only one in the democratic bloc that is truly democratic, the only one committed to gender equality, and the only one that has an answer to the day after the war, that understands that real security will come from a political settlement. I believe that Labor can and should once again be a significant player in determining the future of the State of Israel."

"Together with my friends and friends, I was responsible for saving the Labor Party and its success in the elections for the 24th Knesset. And as the person who headed the system, I am also responsible for the state of the party today. Responsibility is not just about successes."

"Therefore, I have no intention of running in the primaries for the leadership of the party, and I will not run for a place on the Labor list for the next Knesset. Yes, I will be here to do everything possible to give the next leader of the party the steering wheel in the best possible way, for the rebuilding of the party and our country."

Friends and friends,

the State of Israel is currently in a great crisis.
Out of this terrible crisis, Israel must have a new beginning, a restart.
And for that to happen, elections must be held, and I am convinced that Israel is going to elections in 2024.

Meretz said in response to Merav Michaeli's announcement: "Joint elections must be held for the head of the entire left-wing Zionist camp - we must not repeat the mistake of the previous elections," party secretary general Tomer Reznik said, adding: "Michaeli's announcement is important even if it comes late, but the Zionist left camp in general and the Labor Party in particular must not repeat the mistake of the previous elections - Meretz, Labor and the left parts of the protest movement must run jointly. I call on the Labor Conference and members of its faction in the Knesset to adopt a decision on a political unification of forces, beginning with joint elections for the head of the left-wing camp."
