After it was announced that Col. Assaf Hamami had fallen in battle on October 7 and his body had been kidnapped to Gaza, Givati fighters paid tribute to his memory when they went to attack Khan Yunis.

Colonel Hamami was laid to rest on the day the Givati Brigade went into action in the southern Gaza Strip. In the order to embark on the operation, Colonel Liron Battito, who fought alongside Hamami, dedicated the order of attack in connection with his memory. "Like Hamami, that's how I lived: we will fight like Hamami fights with courage and with command from the front and with determination," he told his soldiers.
