Thanked the residents and the business community for their patience: Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher. © Lehmann
Anticipation is the greatest joy. The people of Freising can still look forward to the opening of the pedestrian zone between Schiedereck and Amtsgerichtsgasse.
Freising - Actually, the pedestrian zone should have been opened on Monday: But the onset of winter and the masses of snow have slowed down the last construction work so much, as city press spokeswoman Christl Steinhart reports, that the originally planned change in traffic routing will also be postponed, probably to December 18 - if the weather plays along this time.
(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)
Regardless of the fact that they are not quite finished yet, there was still a celebration on Friday. And there was every reason to do so: after several years of construction, the redesign of the entire Upper Old Town is almost complete.
40000 stones were used - that's 600 cubic meters of granite
Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher announced at the opening, which was under the same weather conditions as the opening of the exposed Moosach in May – it rained – that 40,000 stones had been used. This is equivalent to 600 cubic meters of granite. The mayor expressed his gratitude especially for the patience of the residents and the business community.
The spectacle did not take place on Marienplatz, but around the war memorial. After the speeches and the blessing given by Pastor Daniel Reichel, the guests were able to provide themselves with mulled wine and sausages at the stands before it got hot: Alex Berger, head of the artists' collective IsarStreetArt, ignited his fire show.
And then the Perchten of the Frisinga Fratzen conquered the city centre
And it went on wildly: Punctually at 17 p.m., the Perchten of the Frisinga Fratzen conquered the city center with their eerily beautiful Perchtenlauf. The Active City took care of the physical well-being.
