The landing of a hot air balloon near the perimeter of the American base 'Pluto' in Longare (Vicenza), triggered the anti-terrorism plan yesterday, with the intervention in the military site of the agents of the flying cars and the Digos of the Vicenza Police Headquarters. However, these were not dangerous attackers, but 7 peaceful Austrian tourists, who had left Innsbruck and were left stranded by the absence of gas in the balloon.
The alarm immediately ceased. The tourists, on whom the agents carried out the necessary checks, explained that they had been traveling for about an hour, to admire the Berici Hills and the city of Vicenza from above, but had been forced to an emergency maneuver, after realizing that they were now with very little gas, also finding themselves in a situation of no wind. So they had landed, unbeknownst to them, near the U.S. military base. However, the seven were taken to the police station for identification and fingerprinting for the purpose of checks with Interpol and specialist databases. As no danger or other contraindicated situation emerged, the group of Austrians had the opportunity to refuel the balloon, and set off again to return to Innsbruck.
