Tonight, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a serious indictment against Hunter Biden for three serious tax offenses worth $1.4 million that were not reported to the IRS • The indictment alleges that "Biden spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle instead of paying his taxes"

The U.S. Justice Department filed indictments Thursday night against the president's son, Hunter Biden, on three criminal tax offenses, punishable by up to 17 years in prison. Biden was charged with tax evasion worth $1.4 million.

In addition to the three serious offenses, Biden was also charged with about six other tax offenses, according to the indictment filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Central California. Tax evasion relates to the years 2016 to 2019. The indictment states that "Biden spent millions of dollars on extravagant lifestyles instead of paying his taxes."

Last July, the plea bargain signed between Biden Jr. and the prosecution was canceled after the judge in the case refused to sign the settlement, and the Justice Department appointed a special investigator with broad powers in the case. Hunter is expected to deny the charges against him during the court hearing, in what would become a historic event — for the first time in the United States the son of a sitting president faces a criminal trial.

In addition, Hunter's trial coincides with the impeachment process he began against his father, the president of the House, for allegedly aiding his son's business interests during his tenure as vice president. Alongside all this, President Biden is in the midst of campaigning for a second term in the White House, and his son's trial is already being used by political opponents to clash with the president.
