An 18-year-old resident of Qalqiliya, together with some of his friends, tried to rob Jewish cars, in two cases the victims managed to escape from the defendant and his friends, while in the third case, just before they robbed the vehicle "successfully," they realized that he was an Arab driver and left him alone. Last Thursday, an indictment was filed against one of them and a request for remand until the end of the proceedings.

About two weeks after the beginning of the fighting in Gaza, the defendant conspired with his friends to rob Jewish vehicles by blocking their travel lane and taking control of the vehicles, for which purpose they equipped themselves with medical masks and an iron hose, and also used an escape vehicle while forging the vehicle's license plate with duct tape. In the afternoon, they went to the area of the village of Nabi Elias, after observing vehicles and locating a Jewish driver driving a Mercedes, decided to act and determined in advance that the defendant would be the one to drive the car, since they believed that he was the most skilled driver.

In accordance with the robbery plan, they blocked the complainant's path with their vehicle, while one of them opened the door and burst into the road with his body, but the complainant swerved to the right and fled the scene. An hour later, as they continued to search for Jewish vehicles, they targeted another Toyota taxi driven by a taxi driver, whom they identified as Jewish.

They blocked the taxi driver's path and two of them got out of the car, masked, while one of them had a hose, hit and broke the rear window of the taxi, while the passenger sitting next to the window screamed in panic. At this point, the taxi driver managed to swerve into the opposite lane, overtake the vehicle of the defendant and his friends, and fled the scene.

A short time later, on the third attempt, the defendant and his friends located another vehicle that they intended to rob, but after it became clear to them that the driver was of Arab descent, they refrained from carrying out the robbery plan.

The defendant was arrested last Wednesday and his detention has been periodically extended by the court. During his initial interrogation, he confirmed that he had entered Israel illegally, but denied committing the other offenses and denied prior acquaintance with his friends, despite the fact that many correspondences were found between them. He later maintained his right to remain silent.
