Al Jazeera reports that the Houthis forced another ship to withdraw from the Red Sea after it intended to sail towards Israel. The escalation of the Yemeni terror organization's threats against the Red Sea worries Egyptians.
Houthi documentation of the ship's takeover in the Red Sea
In the past two days alone, the Arab media has reported on two ships that the Houthis have worked against to change their route in the Red Sea and return to where they came from. An economics expert at an Egyptian university says that "Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait threaten one of Egypt's most important national sources of income."
In an interview to a Yemeni website, Egyptian Prof. Mohammed Berra explained that "Bab el-Mandeb is the main entrance to the Suez Canal, and security tensions will harm ship traffic there."
He added that the tension "will definitely affect the Egyptian economy, since income from the Suez Canal is one of the most important sources of income. The annual revenue from the canal reaches about $9 billion, and Houthi actions interfere with traffic."
