Not Just Supporting Antisemitism: Harvard's Dark Past | Israel Hayom

Highlights: Claudine Gay, president of Harvard University, refused to clearly state that incitement to harm Jews is prohibited at the prestigious academic institution. Gay seems to have a history of involvement in embarrassing affairs and astonishing evasion of responsibility. One of the earliest scandals involving Gay's name was the Ryan Enos affair. Last year, a documentary revealed that she was the driving force behind the suspension and ouster of Roland Freier, considered a prodigy in economics and one of the most brilliant professors at the institution.

The congressional hearing led to calls for the impeachment of the university's president, Claudine Gay — but the tacit support for anti-Semitism is not the first, nor even the largest, scandal to which Gay's name has been linked

The refusal of Claudine Gay, president of Harvard University, to clearly state that incitement to harm Jews is prohibited at the prestigious academic institution has seriously complicated her, and now there are calls for her removal, less than a year after her appointment to the position (the announcement of the appointment was made on December 15, 2022). But Gay seems to have a history of involvement in embarrassing affairs and astonishing evasion of responsibility. We asked Perplexity to fish for us the juicy details of Gay's past scandals, as reported by independent journalists.

One of the earliest scandals involving Gay's name was the Ryan Enos affair. In 2018, it was reported by whistleblowers that Enos, a senior university lecturer, fabricated a lot of data in his research – making it nothing more than grandma stories. The leakers were soon shocked to receive a response from the Mossad's Professional Conduct Committee, stating that it was not the body authorized to investigate the allegations, and therefore dismissed the complaint. This is despite the fact that there was no impediment to the committee investigating them, and even if there was, it should have simply transferred the investigation to another body authorized to investigate it. Her outright disqualification was a very suspicious move, which many believe Gay, who was dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and very close to Enos (the fictional studies quoted her many times, and her own research cited them), was behind it.

She also defended two other academics suspected of corruption: Professor Jorge Dominguez, who was not removed from the department where she lectured despite 18 complaints of sexual harassment, and even after she was appointed to replace the head of the faculty, she tried to sweep the complaints under the rug until the university newspaper exposed the affair and forced her to fire him; Michael Smith, who had been the head of the department before her, concealed both the Dominguez affair and ties to underage pimp Jeffrey Epstein, who financed one of the university's departments, and she allegedly knew about everything and continued to hide the affairs after her appointment.

Unlike Gay's friends, who came under her protection, other professors pursued her to the extreme: Last year, a documentary revealed that she was the driving force behind the suspension and ouster of Roland Freier, considered a prodigy in economics and one of the most brilliant professors at the institution. Three sexual harassment complaints have been filed against Freier, so his removal is ostensibly justified – but it clearly contradicts the treatment Dominguez received; Another professor at the institution who took Gay's hand off is Ronald Sullivan, a law professor and lawyer. After agreeing to represent sex offender Harvey Weinstein, articles and polls were published against him in the university newspaper, with Gay herself reportedly inviting them. Why? He condemned her for her abusive treatment of Sucker. Sullivan was eventually fired, too, after Gay argued that his attempt to justify Weinstein's representation was "insufficient."
