Since the Hamas attack on October 7, hundreds of Knesset workers have mobilized to assist the evacuated residents through a variety of voluntary initiatives, including donations of equipment, activities for children in hotels, production of bat and bar mitzvah parties and birthdays, assistance in agricultural harvesting in the south, and distribution of hot meals throughout the period to soldiers and evacuees.

In the joint holiday greeting that the Knesset Speaker, the Knesset Director General, the Knesset Executive and the Workers' Committee thanked the Knesset Guard and the Knesset workers: "The spirit of volunteerism, action and mobilization of all of you in recent times has deepened the strength of the Knesset family's togetherness. We were looking for a way to mark the holiday with you and do good, spread and increase the Light. Therefore, this year we are giving you a unique and valuable gift consisting of eight items against the eight days of Chanukah, each purchased from small business owners in the envelope and behind each of them an exciting story."

We all hope for the speedy return of all the abductees and for the safe return of all members of the security forces, including Knesset workers and Knesset Guard fighters who were drafted into the reserves."
