Capt. (res.) Eliya Janowski, 24, from Jerusalem, a platoon commander in Battalion 8111, 5th Brigade, who fell in battle in the Gaza Strip, will be laid to rest today (Tuesday) at the Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem.
Janowski was killed in an incident in Khan Yunis on Sunday, in which force fighters boarded a Hamas IED scene when they came to search a school used by the terrorists. Five reservists were killed in the incident and another officer was seriously wounded.

Daniel, Elia's brother, eulogized him in grief on his Facebook page: "It is with great sorrow and heartbreak that I was informed that my beloved brother Eliya Janovsky, a captain in the reserve of the 5th Brigade (reserve of the Givati Brigade), was killed in battle in Gaza. I'm in pain, and I can't process the loss of a brother who was also my best friend. We set out together on 7.10 each for his unit and missions. Unfortunately, we will no longer return together, and we will not embrace at the end of the war."
