The grave of Sergeant Major (Res.) Yaakov Ozeri z"l in the Meron cemetery was vandalized by unknown persons. His mother, who saw the desecrated grave on Tuesday morning, recently filed a complaint with the police, who said an investigation had been launched.

Red X marks were painted on the IDF insignia stamped on the tombstone and on Israeli flags placed on the grave. Ozeri, an armored soldier in reserve duty from Kfar Shammai, fell about a month ago, on 7 November, in battle in the northern Gaza Strip. The vandalism of the IDF insignia on the grave is believed to indicate that extremists are behind the act.

Lillian, my late mother: "This is a very shocking event, just terrible. Every morning I pass through the cemetery and light a candle for it, and today I discovered that the flags we placed near the grave were vandalized in red paint with Xs on the Star of David, and the same X marks were also painted on the IDF symbol stamped on the tombstone. I was so upset that I started trying to clean it up myself but it didn't work out very well. We filed a complaint with the police to understand who did it, it's not normal."
