With the assistance of the Population and Immigration Authority and the Foreign Ministry, hundreds of foreign workers from Malawi landed in Israel on Wednesday, most of whom will work in agriculture in the Negev, after the sector was severely damaged as part of the attack by Hamas on October 7.

This is an airlift on its way to Israel, and more planes are expected to land in the coming weeks. With the onset of the crisis, a comprehensive team was established in Israel of an entire system that performs and audits the recruitment and selection process of workers with agricultural backgrounds and in accordance with the procedures of the Population and Immigration Authority. Most of the workers recruited are graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture in Malawi State.
The team is a collaboration of the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council and the Central Arava Regional Council.
Head of the Ramat Hanegev Regional Council, Eran Doron, said: "In the book and in the places where the borders of the State of Israel were determined, there are dedicated farmers who combine working the land with protecting the borders, strengthen the settlements and maintain food security. This was reinforced by the events of the bloody Black Sabbath and the war in Gaza."
