Musa Abu Marzouq, deputy chairman of the political bureau of the Hamas terrorist organization, hinted at the possibility that his organization would recognize the State of Israel as the PLO did, with the aim of ending the conflict between the two organizations.
Abu Marzouq made the remarks to the Al-Monitor news website from his home in Doha, the capital of Qatar. "We need to follow the official position. The official position is that the PLO recognizes the State of Israel." Abu Marzouq even said in an interview that "Israelis have certain rights, but they cannot come at the expense of others."
The American website Al-Monitor reported that senior Hamas figure Musa Abu Marzouq raised the possibility that his organization would recognize Israel as part of a move to end the internal rift between the Palestinian factions, referring to the longstanding disputes between Fatah and Hamas. In an interview with the Maduha website, Qatar said that "we have to follow the official position, which is that the PLO recognized Israel."
