Another public dispute between Israel and the United States stems from the arrival of US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who discussed with senior Israeli officials a transition from high-intensity to low-intensity activity in the near future, but did not specify a fixed time. While the United States is striving to end the war by the end of the year, Israel has made it clear to President Joe Biden's envoy that Israel will continue the war until it completes all its objectives.
Likewise, in his meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu, Sullivan requested that Israel open the Kerem Shalom crossing so that the number of aid trucks entering Gaza every day would reach 200. The Israeli side's answer: "The matter will be examined."
Despite the discrepancy in expectations that the war would end within weeks, Sullivan was attentive to what the chief of staff and ministers told him that the fighting would not be limited in time until the goal of toppling Hamas was achieved. That's according to a source who attended the meeting who described it as "good." As for the day after in Gaza, Israel Hayom learned that Sullivan said to the surprise of those present at the meeting: "I understand that this is not the time to discuss this."
