Hundreds attended the funeral of soldier Ron Sherman at the Lehavim cemetery, who was kidnapped alive in Gaza and murdered. Ron was a DCO in the Gaza DCO, and his body was rescued today (Friday) by an IDF force from the Gaza Strip to Israeli territory.

Father Alex eulogized his son: "You gave us 19 years of happiness and pride. We saw you emerge into the world and from the first moment you filled your surroundings with light. From a dreamy and sensitive child, you grew into an impressive, smart boy with a captivating smile and always surrounded by friends. You succeeded in everything you turned and had dreams that you would undoubtedly have fulfilled had your life not been cut short in such a tragic and cruel way.
"The pain is unbearable and will accompany us for the rest of our lives. We will try to remember you with the confident smile and look that characterized you. You came back to us Ron. It's over. You're home. In our hearts. Hopefully we will know days of quiet that this nation so desperately needs."
"Ron, the boy who always had luck by his side, on that Shabbat when he needed him, luck was not on his side. Still a child who has not matured into an adult. On the other hand, mature in so many ways. Full of self-confidence, smart knows how to get along. Always surrounded by friends who love so much. Every friend who came told Ron was his best friend. And it's true. Because he saw you, in everyone, as his best friend. You dreamed of becoming a lawyer or engineer. You believed in yourself. You had no doubt that you would get what you wanted in life."

"A week before the abduction, we talked about the situation in Israel and about the political disaster that was obviously going to lead to a political disaster. I just didn't think he'd come to our door. I told you how, of all places, in the worst government in Israel's history, you enlist. What a misfortune. Ronchuk, you don't deserve it. None of those murdered and killed in the wake of the greatest failure in the history of the state deserve it. I'm sure in captivity you believed you would be taken out alive. You believed that we would not give up on you and that the State of Israel would return you. In the last 70 days we have come to know so many good people in Israel and around the world who have done everything to help bring you back to us alive. There's good here, too. Asks the sane parts of the War Cabinet to bring back those who are possible alive. There is no moral future for this country, if you give them up, I ask for forgiveness that when you asked for my advice on the day of the kidnapping, I gave you bad advice."
His brother Dan eulogized him: "For 70 days we have been waiting for you to come out of this hell. Who knows what you went through and how much suffering you experienced? When I saw your fear in the eyes in the videos, it crushed me. The world is a place that doesn't give innocent people like you a chance to grow up and fulfill dreams. You were an amazing, loving person."
His sister Eden: "I wanted so badly to believe that you would come back to us. I don't really digest. I hope you are watching over me and us from above. You are an angel child who became an angel in heaven."
