Twelve Iranian border guard officers were killed Friday in an organized attack on a police station in the city of Rasq in Zahadan province in the east of the country.
According to a report in Iran's Tasnim news agency, the attack took place in the early morning hours and involved dozens of armed men who secretly arrived at the police station. It was also reported that the dead were members of the Iranian border guard and that there were many wounded at the scene.
The Iranian news agency reported that Jaish al-Adl, a rebel organization belonging to the Baloch minority living in the east of the country, claimed responsibility for the attack as part of its struggle against the Iranian regime for the independence of the Balochistan region.
