The bodies of the abductees, Corporal Nick Beiser and Sergeant Ron Sherman, were rescued by an IDF force from the Gaza Strip to Israeli territory, in an operation by fighters from the 551st Brigade and Unit 504 of the Intelligence Directorate, under the command of the 162nd Division.
Following an identification process carried out by military medical and rabbinical officials, IDF representatives today notified the families of the two men – who were abducted on Saturday, October 7 by the Hamas terrorist organization – that their bodies had been rescued and returned to Israel.
Nick Beiser (19), from Be'er Sheva, was abducted while serving as a driver for the Gaza DCO. Ron Sherman (19), from Lehavim, was abducted while serving as a coordination and liaison NCO in the Gaza DCO.
Ron Sherman was kidnapped from his base, where he performed his duties of assisting the Gaza population, issuing entry permits, and supervising the transfer of goods. In a conversation with Israel Hayom, his family spoke about his health: "Ron has severe asthma, he needs an inhaler, we fear for his life."
Ron Sherman's father, who also holds Argentine citizenship, was interviewed by several media outlets around the world through which he appealed to superstar footballer Leo Messi for help in releasing his son.
