The lighting ceremony of the eighth candle of Hanukkah was held on Thursday evening at the new offices of the Jewish Agency in Warsaw, Poland. Many of the participants in the event were Jewish refugees from Ukraine, who will take part in the extensive activities of the Jewish Agency in Poland in the future.

The Chief Rabbi of Poland, Michael Schudrich, lit the candle and erected a mezuzah together with the Chabad rabbi. Israel's ambassador to Poland, Dr. Yacoub Levana, also came to greet and light the candle.

The lighting of the eighth and final candle of Hanukkah comes against the backdrop of the shameful incident that took place at the parliament building in Warsaw two days earlier when MP Jazkor Brown, from the far-right Confederation party, extinguished the menorah a few minutes after the conclusion of the lighting ceremony of the sixth candle of Hanukkah attended by members of parliament, representatives of the Jewish community in Poland and the Israeli ambassador to Poland. The incident caused great embarrassment to the ruling government. After the incident, the menorah was relit and a defense was placed around it.
