Golani fighters took over and destroyed Palestine Square in Shejaiya, where Hamas erected a statue glorifying the APC/IDF Spokesperson's disaster
Golani fighters on Monday destroyed Palestine Square, a central square in Gaza's Shejaiya neighborhood, where the abductees were released to the Red Cross, and near which is the famous "disc statue," which glorifies the IDF APC disaster in the neighborhood during Operation Protective Edge. "Wherever such a statue is erected, we will come and destroy it," the IDF said.

"Palestine Square" is the name of the square used by Hamas to release Israeli hostages to the Red Cross last month. The release footage shows the abductees handed over to the Red Cross forces with hundreds of Palestinians on the scene, filming them and shouting at them.
In the square is also located the "Statue of Discs". After Operation Protective Edge, Hamas built the square, called Victory Square, in the Shejaiya neighborhood. In the middle of the square, a statue was erected showing a fist coming out of an armored personnel carrier holding three discs. On one of the discs is written the name of fighter Oron Shaul, whose body is being held by Hamas.

Today, forces of the 188th Brigade arrived at the square together with Golani's 13th Battalion. The forces took over the square and destroyed the statue. "We are here in the place where the Hamas terrorist organization erected a statue glorifying the disaster that happened to the battalion in Protective Edge," said the commander of Battalion 13, "We are sending a clear message to Hamas: Wherever such a statue is erected, we will come and destroy it."
