Bolivia inaugurated its first industrial lithium carbonate plant last Friday, seeking to build on its position as one of the leaders in lithium carbonate reserves.
With an estimated 23 million metric tons available, Bolivia is part of the 'lithium triangle' along with Chile and Argentina.
In recent years, the price of the metal has skyrocketed, as lithium is a key component in electric vehicle batteries.
The Industrial Lithium Carbonate Plant, a state-owned facility located in the southwestern Uyuni salt flat, will produce 15,000 tons in 2024 and 100,000 in 2025, Energy Minister Franklin Molina said.
