Garmisch-Partenkirchen – A fire broke out in a terraced house on Münchner Strasse in Garmisch-Partenkirchen early Monday afternoon (18 December). According to the Upper Bavaria South police headquarters, fortunately no one was injured. The resulting property damage is likely to be in the low six-figure range. The cause of the fire is still unclear.

The notification of the room fire was received at around 13.05 p.m. by the Integrated Control Centre Oberland. The emergency services of the regional fire brigades, who were immediately alerted, determined that the fire broke out on the first floor of the building. Thanks to the rapid intervention, the flames were prevented from spreading to neighbouring properties and the fire was quickly extinguished.

No one was injured

All the residents present brought themselves to safety. No one was injured. However, due to the fire damage, people living on the affected floor will not be able to return to their homes for the time being. They were temporarily accommodated with family members.

Fire investigators of the Criminal Investigation Department investigate

The first investigations were carried out by the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Police Inspectorate. Now the responsible fire investigators of the Kripo under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor's office are working on the case. They are supported by forensic officers. The investigation is still ongoing.

At the beginning of November, there had already been a serious fire in Partenkirchen: More than 1.5 million euros in property damage was caused by a fire in a building in the historic Ludwigstraße. The operation proved to be challenging: For the forces of the fire brigade – there were 140 on site, 94 of them from Partenkirchen alone, with 37 vehicles – the first task was to encircle the fire. In order to have enough water, two pipes were built, one from the Kanker, the other from the Kneipp basin on Brunnhäuslweg. At the same time, six breathing apparatus teams fought the fire from the inside. With the help of two turntable ladders, the emergency services opened large parts of the roof to get the heat out and find hidden embers. This, too, was successful – by joining forces.
