Frank Zander in the hospital: Schlager star has been getting worse and worse lately

As B.Z. On Tuesday afternoon (12 December), Frank Zander had to be taken by ambulance to the Martin Luther Hospital in the Schmargendorf district the day before. What exactly the pop star is missing, however, is not known. An initial finding is said to have indicated increased levels of inflammation in the body, further examinations are still pending.

Even before that, the native of Berlin had been ailing - also due to his last COVID-19 infection - as his son Marcus (55) confirmed to the B.Z.: "It actually became apparent about two weeks ago that he was getting worse." After a 45-minute television recording on December 1, Frank Zander's "physical condition actually got worse day by day," according to his son. The family doctor had finally "urgently ordered the admission to the hospital by ambulance".

Frank Zander's Christmas party: a celebration of solidarity in Berlin

Since 1995, Frank Zander has organized an annual Christmas dinner for around 3,000 homeless and needy people at the Estrel Hotel in Berlin. Other celebrities (including Kai Wegner, Johnny Logan, Annemarie Eilfeld and Axel Schulz) get involved by serving the Christmas menu, participating in the entertainment program or distributing gifts. The festive menu includes about 3,000 goose legs, 6,500 dumplings, 850 kilograms of red cabbage and 250 litres of sauce every year. In the meantime, there are also meat-free alternatives. In 2022, Frank Zander was awarded the Cross of Merit First Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his outstanding social commitment.

Frank Zander cautiously gives the all-clear: "I'm feeling a little better again"

It is questionable whether Frank Zander will be able to take part in his charitable campaign this year for Christmas: "It is not certain that he will be fit again by the time of the celebration," Marcus Zander cautiously hinted. The pop singer himself has also commented on his hospital stay in bild.de: "It's a lot of crap. I could think of something better than having to go to the clinic before my Christmas party for the needy and homeless. But there was no other way."

However, his fans can breathe a sigh of relief: According to his own statements, the 81-year-old is "in the very best hands" and is accordingly on the road to recovery: "I now get a lot of infusions with restorative preparations. And I can already feel that I'm feeling a little better again." Another pop star also recently had to go to hospital - now Bata Illic's (84) management revealed how the singer is doing.
