Staff Sgt. Gal Hershko, 20, from Yiftah, a squad commander in the 603rd Engineer Battalion, the Sa'ar Megolan Division, fell in battle in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday. He was hit by an anti-tank missile on the engineering vehicle in which he and his teammates were staying.
At the school he attended in Hula Valley, he was eulogized: "Gal was a principled, wise boy, loved by all those around him, sociable, opinionated and full of joie de vivre. We embrace and strengthen his family and share their deep sorrow. May his memory be blessed."

The basketball department of the Upper Galilee wrote about Gal: "It is with great sorrow that we were informed of the fall in Gaza of Gal Hershko, 20, from Kibbutz Yiftah. Gal played in the basketball school and in the ketsel in the Goma school and later in the children's teams in the department. We share in the deep sorrow of the family and a kibbutz will open."
