Highlights: "A friend was kidnapped, a friend was murdered. How much more?" asked Carpenter sadly. "Not caught. Love you, my brother. It's heartbroken," Carpenter wrote in response to a voicemail sent to him by Tal Shua. "Sit in front of the sea and not worry, let your head rest from the explosions," he told surfers in his car. "There is nothing more to say, there is none," he wrote under Tal's obituary, with details of the funeral.

It was a particularly difficult weekend for Uri Nagar, who was informed that his friend, Sergeant Major (Res.) Tal Shua, 31, had fallen in battle in the southern Gaza Strip.

In a series of stories posted on the subject last Friday, Carpenter shared with his Instagram followers the great pain and frustration that comes with the loss and the unimaginable reality he has faced since the war began, with one friend still kidnapped in Gaza and one friend killed defending the country with his body. Recall that only last week Carpenter enlisted in Order 8 for reserve service.

"Not caught. Love you, my brother. It's heartbroken," Carpenter wrote in response to a voicemail sent to him by Shua. "Uri, what's the situation, you king? Pardon the delay in the message. I was in Gaza, I only went out for after. We're without cell phones there. In any case, it seems to me that we will delay a bit with this matter because it is a process that I want to accompany myself," Shua informed Uri in his voice.

In another story, Carpenter posted Tal's obituary, with details of the funeral. Underneath a picture of him wearing an IDF uniform, he wrote: "There is nothing more to say, there is none." About two hours later, he filmed himself sitting in his private car, and in the background of the photograph he spoke about the complex reality he has been dealing with since October 7. "A friend was kidnapped, a friend was murdered. How much more?" he asked sadly. He then captured small moments while driving, listening to Arik Einstein's song "Time Out" and quoting parts of it. "Sit in front of the sea and not worry, let your head rest from the explosions, let your heart rest from the pressures, Shabbat Shalom," he greeted the surfers.

In a conversation we had with Carpenter last week, he spoke about his enlistment in the reserves under Order 8: "At the beginning of the war I was quite surprised that I wasn't summoned, but if they need me I show up. There is no consideration at all." On concerns about the draft, he said: "Of course there is a fear of leaving childhood, what do you mean? There is concern. I want them to see their dad in uniform and be proud of me."
