This year, the Bürgerstiftung Schongau is once again supporting associations and institutions with a sum of money for special purchases. Among other things, various musical activities were supported, but also the Schongau warming room as a retreat.

Schongau – Mayor Falk Sluyterman welcomed many guests of honour to the ceremony of the community foundation in the town hall this week. Musical support was provided by the future junior members of the Schongau String Players, members of the string class of the Welfengymnasium. Under the direction of Judith Grünthaler, the students from the fifth grade sang Christmas carols: four violins, three violas, three cellos and two double basses.

He was already looking forward to the other pieces, the head of the town hall praised the young musicians, before he took out a symbolic cheque: The board of trustees had decided to support the new string class, a low-threshold offer to learn a string instrument. "And music teachers cost money," says Sluyterman. On behalf of the string class, lower school supervisor Christiane Treib and headmaster Bernhard O'Connor accepted the amount of 1200 euros. "When we spread our musical wings, this is also possible thanks to the Pfaffenwinkel Music School," the director emphasized.

The Schongau Music School did not go away empty-handed, which is certainly also thanks to the long-standing commitment of the music school board member Erwin Krauthauf, who also sits on the board of trustees. The foundation is donating 3000 euros to a very special project, which Mayor Sluyterman announced as a "magic harp". Whether people with disabilities or older people who have never learned to read music or simply want to play an instrument again without hurdles, can now make music together with this string plucked instrument, developed by Hermann Veeh.

"This also helps against loneliness," added Krauthauf, who thanked for the amount. With more than 1000 students, there is always a funding gap, so he will also say this time: "I don't promise that I won't come back, but that I'll come back."

Every year, the income from the foundation's assets is also used to support cultural offerings, this time the money went to "LiccAmbra", which emerged from the Schongauer Land Cultural Association. "We see a great program throughout the year, not least with the arts and culture festival," praised Sluyterman, which took place for the third time this year.

In addition, work is carried out across municipalities, according to the mayor. "And in such a way that we can make friends with Peiting beyond Schongau's borders," Hans Rehbehn completed to great applause. As one of the chairmen, he accepted a symbolic cheque for 1100 euros. The money is to be spent on advertising measures, as the funding pots are empty.

Sports facilities also benefited from foundation money: The canoe department of TSV Schongau can look forward to 1750 euros to support this year's 50th Bavarian Hikers' Meeting. With a delay of three years, the canoeists in the TSV had organized this event, 120 participants from all over Bavaria and beyond had come to Lechbruck, where the meeting had been held in Schongau due to lack of space.

"It was a great event, it really welded our department together," says department head Karl Zwerger. Hiking boating is to be expanded in Schongau, they want to purchase some more club-owned boats and hope for many interested people to try out the boats.

The table tennis department is also happy about the support of the community foundation, as they urgently need two new table tennis tables. "I used to play table tennis myself, I know how expensive they are," Sluyterman revealed. Head of department Jürgen Strauss expressed his gratitude for the donation. "Without them, club sports can hardly be financed."

Tables were also the subject of the last amount that was awarded this year, namely for the convivial get-together in the warming room of the Herzogsägmühle in Schongau. The facility in Dominikus-Zimmermann-Strasse is important. "It's nice that people who have a hard time in life can find a place where they can warm up and exchange ideas," said the mayor and welcomed Stefan Schütz from Diakonie. The community foundation had set aside 1500 euros for this purpose. The furniture had already been purchased and had just been duly admired at the Christmas party, Schütz thanked.
