The holidays are a good occasion to look back on the year that is coming to an end. Despite all the crises, there were also many bright spots – comments editorial director Hans Moritz.
Should we even shed a tear for this year? The war in Ukraine rages on relentlessly. In the Middle East, too much blood, not least that of children, is flowing after Hamas' invasion of Israel. Politics in Germany seems more divided than ever. Right-wing extremists are pushing further and further into the mainstream of society and exploiting people's fear of social decline. Yes, these are certainly not easy times. World history has left us no time to catch our breath after Corona.
But isn't 2023 much more? Let's focus only on our own homeland. What a great year of events it was? The Neuchingen Synod, numerous folk festivals, theatre performances, anniversaries, sports tournaments and so on. This shows that the community has not allowed itself to be divided by the pandemic. On the contrary, the pent-up demand was palpable. We finally got closer again.
In the same way, volunteering and civic engagement are flourishing. The willingness to help and donate is unbroken, as we can experience with "Light in the Hearts". As you can see, there are so many reasons to be in good spirits. Let's give ourselves a little more confidence for 2024! Merry Christmas to all of you! Ham
