"The Christmas gift that Norcia has given itself is the reopening of a dozen shops within the historic center during this 2023": Giuliano Boccanera, acting mayor of the city of San Benedetto, told ANSA.
"The lights and vitality that these activities have restored to our lives and our squares more than seven years after the earthquakes of 2016 are an important sign of true economic rebirth after so much suffering," adds Boccanera, walking through the shop windows that have been able to return to their old locations.
"2023 was a significant year," explains the administrator, "for both public and private reconstruction. The conclusion of the external recovery of the Basilica of St. Benedict was the highest point, now the second lot of work has begun and will be completed in 2025". "But the completion of the construction site of the town hall is also in the home stretch, which will be completed over the course of next year barring inconveniences, and the work on the theater must also be speeded up," says Boccanera. He says he is very confident about the future of the city: "Our young people must stay here, maybe first they will go abroad to gain experience - he concludes - but then I invite them to come back and make their contribution to the growth of this territory".
