Another family tragedy struck Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter, 43, on Sunday night. A little more than a year after his younger brother, musician Aaron Carter, died at age 34 after drowning in a bathtub, and about a decade after his sister Leslie, also a singer, died at age 25 from an overdose, it was reported Saturday that another of Nick's sisters, Bobbi Jean, had died at age 41.

The cause of death of the deceased, who served as Aron's stylist and makeup artist on his tours in the early 2000s, has not yet been made public, but sources in the United States report that she died as a result of cardiac arrest. The late sister, who in recent years has been careful to maintain privacy and tried to stay away from the spotlight, also participated in the family's reality series, "House of Carters", which aired on E! in 2006.

As a young woman, Bobbi Jean, mother of an eight-year-old girl named Bella, struggled with problems of addiction to banned substances. She was also arrested in Florida last June for attempting to steal $55 worth of arts and crafts from a hotel store, and officers called to the scene found several grams of fentanyl in her possession. Upon her arrest, it was reported at the time, she threatened the police: "I'm just going to have to kill myself."

Jane Carter, Bobby Jean's mother, told TMZ last night: "I am shocked by my daughter's sudden death. I will need more time to digest the terrible reality that this happened a third time. When I can think clearly, I will release a fuller message. Until then, I will ask that they allow me to grieve in private." Of the Carter's five children, Nick and his sister Angel (Aaron's twin) are the only two survivors.
