Long traffic jams on many Bavarian motorways: Travellers must be patient before Christmas. A stretch of motorway is particularly affected.

Munich – Shortly before Christmas, the travel wave is rolling, according to the General German Automobile Club (ADAC). "We have traffic jams in all directions," said a spokesman for the ADAC on Friday, December 22. All motorways in the Free State are affected. People are on the move from everywhere, they are visiting relatives, they are on their way to vacation or shopping, according to the spokesman.

Travel wave shortly before Christmas: Numerous traffic jams in Bavaria

The weather requires special attention from drivers, for example when overtaking trucks. According to the ADAC, traffic came to a standstill for the longest time on Friday afternoon on the Autobahn 8 from Munich towards Salzburg, where it was only stop-and-go for 22 kilometers. In addition, there are several traffic jams of ten or more kilometers in length, the spokesman said.

The automobile club also expects heavy traffic on the roads throughout Germany on Saturday. On Christmas Eve, however, things are likely to be a little quieter.
