The political scientist and writer, former adviser to Nicolas Sarkozy, died in Les Sables-d'Olonne at the age of 74. He will be remembered as an intellectual figure of the non-conformist right.
The left-wing chronicle had made him the devil. Patrick Buisson passed away the day after Christmas. Both a devout Catholic and a character in a novel, he could not have chosen the date of his death better. Buisson, who participated in the creation of his own black legend and willingly cultivated his image as a great puppeteer pulling strings in the shadows, would no doubt have appreciated this final wink of fate. There is no doubt that this will only reinforce the halo of mystery that already surrounded him during his lifetime and which he secretly revelled in.
