The tug-of-war between animal welfare advocates and bullfighting advocates continues in Mexican courts. While the Justicia Justa association had obtained in June 2022 their suspension in a territory - a "delegation" - of the capital, the Supreme Court rejected this decision on December 6, considering that it was not legally justified. At the time, however, the judge established that "society (was) sensitive to respect for the physical and emotional integrity of all animals".
This rejection is a blow to animal welfare associations, such as Animal Heroes. Its director, Jeronimo Sanchez, said he was "saddened", but said it was an expected decision. "The position of Magistrate Yazmin Esquivel in favor of bullfighting is common knowledge," he said.
