Drama in the North. The body of a newborn was found Tuesday, December 26 in a bag, following a fire in an apartment building in Le Quesnoy, a small town in Hauts-de-France, Le Figaro learned from a source close to the case, confirming information from La Voix du Nord. Firefighters made the gruesome discovery in the late afternoon in a home.
The fire began raging in the late morning, around 11:30 a.m., on the first floor of a building. The fire brigade was immediately deployed, with a large ladder and several water hoses. The fire was contained in the early afternoon, before being extinguished, which allowed firefighters to enter the area in search of potential victims.

'Apartment empty of occupants'
At around 16:40 p.m., while searching an apartment, firefighters discovered the backpack, with the body of a newborn baby lying inside. "The apartment was empty of occupants" so there were "no injuries", but "the framework was in danger of collapsing", a source told AFP.
For the time being, no lead as to the presence of this infant in the bag is preferred. An investigation has been opened and is currently being carried out by the Avesnes-sur-Helpe search brigade. The investigations have only just begun, and will have to bring to light the circumstances of this tragedy, in particular with the help of the forensic police.
