ABC reported this evening that the American aircraft carrier Gerald Ford, who arrived in the region at the start of the war in October, will help the Middle East region. The Pentagon sent the ship, the largest and newest of the Navy's aircraft carriers, to deter Hezbollah and Iran from launching a war against Israel in the north and expand it into a regional war. She will make her way back to her home base in Virginia, along with five other ships. A senior U.S. official told ABC News that despite the departure, the United States would continue to have significant military capability in the Middle East, including the deployment of additional destroyers in the Mediterranean.

The report also reported that last week two amphibious warships of the United States arrived in the Mediterranean Sea from the Red Sea, joining another ship. On board was a force of about 2,200 Marines. Another aircraft carrier, Dwight D. Eisenhower, was sent to the region early in the war, but was redirected to the Persian Gulf to deter Iran from joining the war. Eisenhower is currently in the Gulf of Aden, east of Yemen, where, along with other ships, it is engaged in operational activity against the Houthis.
