The US State Department issued the rare statement after Ministers Smotrich and Ben-Gvir spoke in favor of "resettlement" and mass migration of Palestinians out of Gaza.

"This rhetoric is provocative and irresponsible," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement, naming the two ministers. "We have been told repeatedly and consistently by Prime Minister Netanyahu that such statements do not reflect the policy of the Israeli government. They need to stop immediately."

He added: "We are clear, consistent and unequivocal that Gaza is Palestinian land and will remain Palestinian land, with Hamas no longer in control of its future and without terrorist groups that can threaten Israel."

A spokesman for the Political Department concluded, "This is the future we seek for the interests of Israelis and Palestinians, the surrounding region and the world."
