IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy held an assessment today (Wednesday) on the northern border with the commander of the Northern Command, Maj. Gen. Uri Gordin, the commander of the 210th Division, Brigadier General Zion Ratzon, the commanders of the brigades and reserve battalions defending the sector.
Chief of Staff Halevy spoke about the preparedness on the northern border in the face of threats from Lebanon and Syria: "We are in very strong readiness in the north in my impression, I visit here a lot. I think preparedness is at its peak. There is very great proficiency, there is good ability and there is high spirit. We are very well prepared on all fronts and we are currently focusing on fighting Hamas. This war began at a difficult point. War creates an opportunity to change the situation significantly.

"I think we talked about it last time in the meeting, we won't elaborate on it now. But it also creates in these very difficult circumstances some opportunity to change the situation in a very significant way. Also in the south, in the north, and in general in regional stability. First of all we are looking ahead, we are going to change the defense in routine, we are going to hold at least in the coming year much more order at the borders, and we will reach something that is much stronger. Because this event, as difficult as it is, and we'll talk a lot more, it can't be repeated, that's for sure.

The Chief of Staff concluded: "We need to provide a very, very strong response in this matter. I tell you, in our decisions, I know that there is a trained, briefed, right, spiritual force here. And we're going with that, that's our security, we don't have anything stronger than that. That's the most."
