After the Ministry of Environmental Protection received a report yesterday from EAPC Ashkelon regarding the detection of a suspected oil stain about 1.5 km west of the coast, the National Marine Environmental Protection Unit of the Ministry of Environmental Protection has been conducting marine and coastal patrols in the area since Thursday morning, to detect and detect marine and coastal oil contamination.

During the morning patrol, the unit located several stripe-shaped spots about 400 meters long south and west of Ashkelon National Park, about half a kilometer west of the coast. The stain appears to be a delicate strip of residues mixed with other substances. In patrols carried out on the beaches, between the port of EAPSA and the northern coast of Ashkelon, no landings of oil contamination were found on the beaches, and on the beach of the national park an emulsion of suspicious substance and a few landings of fresh tar were found. The initial model conducted by the ministry showed the possibility that the source of the stain was at sea northwest of its current location, and in any case it seems that the material was in the sea for some time. The ministry's marine unit updated all the relevant entities upon receiving yesterday's report, including the Ministry of Health, coastal local authorities, the Nature and Parks Authority and desalination plants in the area. So far, no oily findings have been found in seawater suction in the facilities.
