The human bones discovered on Sunday, December 31 in a garden shed in Limoges (Haute-Vienne) are those of a headless man whose identity "remains unknown", the prosecutor's office said on Thursday. Saw marks were found on the bones during an autopsy which revealed that they belonged to a man, "whose head is missing", said Limoges public prosecutor Baptiste Porcher.

It was after noticing "a foul smell" that the owner of a pavilion in the north of the city decided to inspect her garden shed on December 31. When she opened "boxes", she discovered, horrified, human remains with "flesh on them", before calling the police, according to the magistrate.

Unknown Victim

Questioned as a witness, the mother told police that she saw her ex-husband, with whom she has been separated for a long time, leave bags in the shed in April 2022, with the help of her brother. The two men were arrested on Tuesday, in a state of intoxication, and taken into custody in an investigation for murder and concealment of a corpse.

Aged 46 and 54, they "have small records for acts of violence and traffic offences," says Baptiste Porcher. The two men, who deny the facts, were referred to the public prosecutor's office on Wednesday evening for the opening of a judicial investigation. Scientific and anthropological analyses have been carried out to identify the victim, who "remains unknown", the prosecutor added, assuring that "no lead is preferred".
