The Oberlandler Gauverband has been in existence for 125 years. In honour of the anniversary, numerous celebrations are planned throughout the year.

District – For 125 years, the traditional costumers in the Oberland have been trying to preserve their traditions and traditional costumes. In 1899, the clubs merged to form the Oberlandler Gauverband. This year, the association is celebrating its anniversary with numerous festivals and events.

Illustrated book for the 125th anniversary

It starts this Saturday. On 6 January, the Gauverband invites you to a joint church service in Dietramszell. "We are starting the anniversary year with a thanksgiving and commemorative mass," says Schorsch Englhart, chairman of the Gauverband. With the mass, the association wants to commemorate the deceased members.

Afterwards, the anniversary illustrated book "125 Years of the Oberlandler Gauverband" will be presented and distributed to the clubs. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary, the clubs had already published a chronicle of the history of the Gauverband and its member clubs. Instead of a continuation of the chronicle, however, an illustrated book is planned for this anniversary. It shows, among other things, pictures of the anniversary celebration 25 years ago, the blessing of the first gaufahne and numerous traditional costume markets from the past decades. The almost 50 member clubs also took part with pictures from the club's life – from youth work to Leonhardi trips to anniversaries. The illustrated book will be available from 6 January through the Gauverband and the member associations. "At 416 pages, it's more of a book than an illustrated book," Englhart admits.

Fourth Gaujugendtag in Gmund

On June 1st, the Gaujugendtag takes place in Gmund. The first Gaujugendtag took place on the occasion of the last anniversary in 1999 and will be held for the fourth time this year. It is precisely because of the strong young talent of the Neureuthers that Gmund is a suitable venue, according to the district chairman.

In addition to the annual events, such as the pilgrimage to Birkenstein and the Gaupreisplattln, the Gaufest takes place on 28 July. However, there will be no special ceremony to mark the 125th anniversary of the association. "It's not a Gaufest anniversary," explains Englhart. This year the Gaufest will take place in Schliersee.

Mountain bonfire in August and ceremony in the Trachtenheim Irschenberg

Nevertheless, the Gauverband wants to pay a special tribute to its founding year. Therefore, all clubs are called upon to organize mountain fires on August 15th. "In the past, mountain fires were always lit on special occasions and festivals," explains Englhart. 25 years ago, around 35 clubs took part in the campaign. "This strengthens the conviviality, there is something for young and old."

The ceremony on 19 October in the Trachtenheim Irschenberg will conclude the anniversary year. Which program is planned for this day is still open. However, the activities planned throughout the year offer a "well-rounded picture", says Englhart. "You can't celebrate a 125th anniversary in one day." He is particularly pleased that the program is so diversely distributed among the subgroups in the Gau.
