IDF chiefs of staff, former police commissioners, heads of Mossad and Shin Bet, generals, extras, heads of Mossad and retired Shin Bet divisions sent a letter of support to IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy following the confrontation between him and some of the ministers of the last political-security cabinet.

"In recent months, we have been proudly watching IDF commanders and fighters fight under your command bravely and with manifestations of striving for contact and dedication to the mission, and see how you lead the coping with complex challenges professionally," the letter reads, "In recent days we
have also been following with great sorrow the eighth front that was opened to the IDF - the political-security cabinet front, whose goal is to defeat the IDF and the chief of staff."

"An attack on the chief of staff is an injury to the fighters"

It added: "Penetrating questions, clarification of facts, and criticism – however harsh – of the chief of staff and the IDF are the right and duty of the cabinet ministers, but preserving the spirit of the IDF, determining its values – including conducting debriefings in order to draw operational lessons –
are especially essential at this time."

The signatories of the letter warn the chief of staff that "there are ministers in the political-security cabinet
who use you and the IDF as a battering tool for political confrontations while our sons, your soldiers,
sacrifice their lives in the face of the enemy to defend the State of Israel. The injury to the chief of staff is an injury to the IDF, it is an injury to the fighters, it is an injury to the fighting spirit - and it is an injury to the memory of his fallen."
