Yisrael Beiteinu Party Chairman MK Oded Forer began collecting 70 signatures from members of all the House factions on Monday morning in order to bring about the ouster of MK Ofer Kasif (Hadash) from the Israeli Knesset.

The move comes after Kasif signed a petition against Israel supporting South Africa's complaint of "genocide" in Gaza. He added on social media that the government was committing "crimes" on behalf of the people.

MK Oded Forer: "MK Kasif's words of treason can no longer be heard while the blood of our soldiers and civilians cries out from the ground. MK Kasif, who was disqualified from running for the Knesset in the past following a petition I submitted to the Elections Committee, chose during combat to join one of the most destructive initiatives for the security of the State of Israel, and thus supports Hamas' struggle against Israel. He must soon find himself beyond the borders of the Knesset and preferably beyond the borders of the State of Israel."

It should be noted that after the Election Committee disqualified Ofer Kasif from running in the Knesset elections, the Supreme Court reversed the decision and allowed him to run and even be elected.

The Basic Law of the Knesset states that the Knesset may, by a majority of 90 MKs, decide to terminate the membership of a member of Knesset if it determines that he supported an armed struggle against the State of Israel. The law stipulates that after collecting signatures from 70 Knesset members submitted to the Knesset Committee, it will be possible to begin an impeachment process, at the end of which 90 Knesset members will have to vote on the removal of MK Kasif.
